UMDs (Under Monitor Displays) are alpha-numeric display modules
with tally LED bars positioned under picture monitors (or in front
of them). A remotely located Controller interface all the messages
and colour attributes and tallies with the Router and the Vision
Mixer.
UMDs are usually
either 10, 20, double 9 or triple 6 character dynamic displays.
They can also be film static displays.
The static ones are bicolor backlight displays
with a tally LED bar.
OSD are dynamic with audio monitoring just imposed
on the analogue Video signal.
Dynamic UMDs
are serially addressed by the Controller. Tally routing information
may be changed either automatically or at will.
Various types of display are available, so
to match common monitor spacing.
